App & compatibility
Download our app on the product page.
Requires an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android device, or Mac with Apple silicon. See the app manual for details.
Wear & care
The Core / Spark is splash resistant (IP65). It can withstand light rain and minor water splashes, such as when washing your hands. However, it is not designed to withstand heavy rain, showers, or full water immersion.
The Core / Spark contains strong magnets that may interfere with certain medical devices. For more information, please refer to the Safety & Regulatory Information section at the end of this manual.
Tip
Do not store your Core / Spark for extended periods (more than 3 months) with a fully depleted battery, as this may result in permanent battery damage.
When not in use, the battery in your wearable will slowly discharge. If the device remains unused for an extended period (for example, 3 months or longer), the battery may become over-discharged. This can cause permanent damage to the battery’s internal components. In severe cases, the battery and the device may no longer function. This behavior is common to all modern lithium batteries.
To prevent this, charge and discharge your wearable at least once every three months to maintain battery health. If you use your device regularly, such as at least once per week, no additional precautions are necessary.
What happens if the battery is permanently damaged?
Currently, the battery in our wearables cannot be replaced. This is due to the use of adhesives to improve water resistance. Opening the device may damage internal mechanical components, preventing reassembly.
We aim to make batteries replaceable in future products. However, achieving this in a compact and tightly integrated form factor presents significant engineering challenges.
For this reason, it is especially important to take proper care of your wearable’s battery.
If you suspect that your device’s battery has been damaged, please contact our support team. We will do our best to assist you: contact support
Silicone strap & body strap
Both straps are highly durable and suitable for use in all environmental conditions.
Leather straps
We use premium-quality leather. Natural variations in color and markings, such as scars or wrinkles, are inherent characteristics of genuine leather and contribute to its unique appearance.
Over time, the leather will naturally conform to your wrist and develop a distinctive patina. To preserve its quality and longevity, we recommend minimizing exposure to moisture.
Lock system for the rig (Core only)
To remove the Core from its rig, twist it counterclockwise and take it off.
To attach the Core to the rig, hold it slightly above the rig and release it. The Core will magnetically snap into place.
When placing the Core on the rig, ensure that the buttons face toward your hand. If you prefer to wear the Core on your other wrist, you can adjust the screen orientation in the mobile app.
Tip
Make sure you both hear and feel the spring-loaded pin engage when the Core locks into place on the rig. This confirms that it is securely attached and prevents it from falling off.
Changing the watch straps
To change the watch strap, turn the device over and release the two rivets located on each side.
We offer a range of strap options for the Soundbrenner Core and Spark, crafted from high-quality materials such as silicone, woven nylon, and leather. Explore the latest collection at:

If you experience synchronization issues, you can initiate a manual sync in the mobile app under your device’s settings.
The mobile app provides several ways to view and analyze your practice data, including a practice calendar, streak tracking, and additional insights.
Vibrating metronome
Body strap
Where you position the Core / Spark on your body can significantly affect your experience. The optimal placement varies from musician to musician.
Using the included body strap and body strap rig, you can wear the Core on your wrist, arm, or ankle. With the included extension piece, you can also attach it to your chest, shoulder, or thigh.
Tip
During your first few sessions, experiment with different positions to determine what feels most comfortable and effective. Wearing the device on your chest typically provides the strongest and most precise vibration feedback.
Ensure that the strap is secured firmly. A tighter fit enhances the transmission of vibrations and improves the overall experience.
If you have thin arms or ankles
To set the body strap to its smallest setting, align the arms of the rig with the markings on the strap as shown in the illustration below.
How to feel the beat
Using a vibrational metronome is a different experience from using a traditional audible metronome. When you first begin using the Core / Spark, allow yourself time to adapt. Do not be discouraged if it feels unfamiliar at first, as this is a normal part of the learning process.
With continued use, the vibration can become a subconscious cue that supports your sense of timing and helps you maintain the beat naturally.
Setting up a rhythm
1. Press the bottom button to select the first value.
2. While selected, use the wheel to change the value.
3. Press the bottom button again to edit the next value. Press the top button to go back.
4. Tap the soundwave twice quickly to start or pause the metronome.
Tip
You can also start the metronome by pressing and holding the bottom button. The metronome will begin as soon as you release the button.
This method allows you to precisely align the start of the metronome with the rhythm of the music or audio you are listening to.
Change LED lights, vibrations & sounds
Because every musician has different preferences, you can customize your Core / Spark using the mobile app.
LED lights & vibrations
To adjust or disable the LED lights and vibrations, open the mobile app and navigate to:
Settings → Select your Core → Metronome vibrations or Metronome lights
We recommend experimenting with different vibration intensities and durations to find the settings that work best for you.
Sounds
To customize or disable the metronome sounds, open the mobile app and go to:
Settings → App settings → Metronome sounds
Multi-player sync
The Core / Spark can be synchronized with other Soundbrenner wearables by connecting all devices to the same mobile device. You can sync up to five devices simultaneously, allowing everyone to feel the beat together.
Core / Spark can only maintain one active connection at a time. If you want to switch to a different mobile device, first unpair or disconnect it from the current device. To access the unpairing prompt, open the Settings app on your Core / Spark, navigate to Bluetooth, and press the bottom button.
Once the device is ready to pair, open the Soundbrenner app on the new mobile device. Then navigate to:
Settings → Add a Soundbrenner wearable
Select the wearable you would like to connect and follow the on-screen instructions.
Chromatic tuner
Microphone tuner (Core 2 / Spark only)
Open the Microphone tuner app and play a note. The device will detect the closest pitch and display its deviation in cents. As you adjust the pitch, the LED ring will change from red to green to indicate when the note is in tune.
To adjust the tuning reference (A4), press the bottom button and rotate the wheel to set your preferred frequency (default: 440 Hz).
Contact tuner
The original Core includes the Contact tuner app pre-installed.
For Core 2 / Spark, a magnetic tuning accessory is required to use the Contact tuner app. You can choose between a tuning clip or adhesive tuning mounts. Each accessory includes a unique code to unlock the Contact Tuner app on Core 2 / Spark.
Contact tuning is designed for use with guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, and violin.
Tip
To purchase magnetic tuning accessories, visit:
Attaching a magnetic tuner mount
Each magnetic tuner mount comes with pre-applied adhesive. Remove the protective backing and firmly attach the mount to the headstock of your instrument.
The tuner mount is designed for long-term use, so you do not need to remove it after each session. If you decide to remove it, peel it off carefully to avoid damaging the surface of your instrument.
Using the contact tuner
- Open the Contact tuner app on your device.
- Remove the wearable from its rig by twisting it counterclockwise.
- Attach the magnetic port on the side of the device to the tuner mount or tuning clip.
When you play a string, the LED ring and display will activate to show the tuning information.
Decibel meter
Sound levels
Open the Decibel meter app to measure current, average, and maximum sound levels. The Core / Spark measures sound levels above 70 dB and uses A-weighting for its readings.
Tip (Core only)
For improved accuracy, remove the Core from its rig and place it on a soft surface, such as a cloth or your hand, before opening the Decibel meter app.
Volume alarm
Your Core / Spark monitors sound exposure throughout the day and alerts you when volume levels reach potentially harmful thresholds, based on World Health Organization guidelines:
- 80 dB: 5 hours 30 minutes per day
- 85 dB: 1 hour 45 minutes per day
- 90 dB: 30 minutes per day
- 95 dB: 10 minutes per day
Your privacy is important to us. No audio is recorded or stored at any time.

Circle of fifths
Using the circle on Core 2 / Spark
The circle of fifths is a music theory tool that shows how keys, chords, and scales relate to each other. Neighboring keys on the circle share nearly all of the same notes, which is why they often sound natural together.
On Core 2 / Spark, the feature gives you a quick reference while practicing, composing, or learning a song.
Read the screen
The top section shows related chords for the selected key. Major chords appear on the top row and minor chords on the bottom row. The currently selected key is marked with a small rectangle.
The lower section shows the notes in the selected scale, not chord names. Uppercase and lowercase letters here do not indicate chord quality. For example, C major shows C D E F G A B C, while A minor shows A B C D E F G A.
Navigate the circle
Rotate the wheel to move left or right around the circle. Moving clockwise follows fifths and adds sharps to the key signature. Moving counter-clockwise follows flats.
Press the bottom button to switch the focus between the major and minor rows.
Tip
Use nearby chords as a starting point when writing progressions. They are closely related to the selected key and usually feel cohesive together.
F♯ and G♭
At the bottom of the circle, F♯ and G♭ share the same position. They sound the same but are written differently, which is called an enharmonic equivalent.
Core 2 / Spark shows F♯ when you arrive from the sharp side and G♭ when you arrive from the flat side. A dotted line marks this transition.
Troubleshooting
Connecting to your mobile device
If your Core, Core 2, or Spark does not connect to your mobile device, try the steps below.
Try these steps in order:
- Make sure your wearable is powered on: Charge it first if needed.
- Core / Spark can only actively connect to one mobile device at a time: If you are switching phones or tablets, disconnect or unpair it from the previous device first.
- Pair inside the Soundbrenner app: Do not pair from your phone's Bluetooth settings first. In the app, go to Settings → Add a Soundbrenner wearable.

FAQs
Core / Spark charges over standard 5V USB and needs up to 0.5A (500mA) to reach full charging speed.
Most USB power sources meet or exceed that requirement, including:
- Computer USB ports
- Wall chargers
- Portable battery packs
In practice, almost any normal USB charger will charge Core / Spark at full speed.
It is also safe to use a charger with a higher current rating. The device will draw only the power it needs.
Firmware updates are installed through the Soundbrenner app.
- Open the app and sign in to your account.
- If needed, connect your Core / Spark in Settings → Add a Soundbrenner wearable.
- Open your device settings.
- Tap Firmware update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and keep your phone connected to the internet until the update finishes.
If you do not see a firmware update option, your device is already up to date.
On iPhone, the device may unpair after the update. If that happens, pair it again through the Soundbrenner app.
If a firmware update does not complete successfully, the device may temporarily enter recovery mode. In most cases, this does not mean the device is defective. Keep the wearable charged, reopen the Soundbrenner app, and try the update again. If recovery mode does not clear after repeating the update flow, please contact our support team.
If the BPM stays at 120, vibration does not respond, or app controls do not affect the wearable, it is usually not connected correctly in the app.
Remove or forget the wearable in your phone's Bluetooth settings if it appears there, then reconnect it from inside the Soundbrenner app.
The usual setup is Ableton Live → the Soundbrenner app → Core / Spark.
Enable Ableton Link in Ableton Live and in the Soundbrenner app. Then connect your wearable in the app. Core / Spark does not normally connect directly to Ableton Live on its own.
If note detection is too short, try adjusting the angle of Core / Spark on the tuner mount.
A small position change can improve vibration pickup and make note detection longer and more stable, so you do not need to pluck or strum as often.
