Ever had to deal with crumpled, torn up, and even misplaced sheet music? We don’t blame you- they can be awfully troublesome to carry around. We’ve all been through the days of stuffing our sheet music into the little pockets of our instrument bags. Thankfully, new technology has given us the handy invention that is music sheet apps! Not only are your sheet music safe from wear and tear, it’s easily accessible and way more convenient to carry around.

In no particular order, here are our picks for the best music sheet apps out there right now!

1. OnSong (free with in-app subscriptions)

With countless features to support your musical workflow, OnSong allows you to store, sort, customise, and perform your music all in one place. Though the free version is sufficient, their in-app subscriptions are hard to resist. With a premium subscription, you can personalise and manage your library, edit your library across devices, email and export your sheet music, annotate, and way more.

OnSong is currently only available for download on iOS (don’t worry Android users, we’ve got more for you!)

2. MuseScore (free with in-app subscriptions)

Built by an open-source community, MuseScore is an impressive sheet music software. You’ll have access to over 1.5 million pieces of free sheet music for most instruments under various genres. With their in-app subscription, MusicScore PRO+, you’ll have access to an ad-free MusicScore, more learning and sharing options, and more.

One of the most versatile software for musicians, MuseScore is available on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.

3. Musicnotes (free with in-app subscriptions)

With over 400,000 sheet music arrangements readily available, Musicnotes is great for beginners to long-time musicians alike. Although you’ll have to individually purchase each sheet music you’d like, Musicnotes also allows you to import your own sheet music via Dropbox. In fact, being able to individually purchase the compositions you like rather than paying for a bunch of sheets you’ll never touch, may be a good thing! With over 50 million downloads, Musicnotes is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Another sheet music app that’s compatible with many devices, Musicnotes is available on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.

4. Paperless Music ($4.99)

The most budget-friendly app in this list, Paperless music has no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no requirement for an account. With a one and done cost of $4.99, Paperless music is a straight-to-the-point, general purpose music reader with the ability to import and export your own sheet music. They also have some cool features. For example, their Collection feature that allows you to group the sheet music of your choice together for convenience. They also have editing tools which allow you to make annotations!

Unfortunately, Paperless Music is currently only available for iOS.

5. GuitarTab (free with in-app purchases)

Another straight-to-the-point sheet music app, GuitarTab is a sheet music app optimised for guitarists. With access to more than 800,000 free tabs, GuitarTab is great for users who want to learn a song easily and simply. GuitarTab is also relatively budget friendly in comparison to many other guitar-oriented sheet music apps. There’s definitely a reason why GuitarTab has received tens of thousands of downloads and many positive reviews.

GuitarTab is available on both iOS and Android.

Even with sheet music apps that have auto-scrolling features for your hands-free convenience, sometimes you might just want to flip through the pages yourself. All the apps featured in this list are compatible with the Stomp Bluetooth foot pedal– the most robust and reliable pedal in the market.
