The very first prototypes of the Soundbrenner Pulse were much less appealing than what it looks today. Imagine wearing a dollar store watch while rockin it on stage. Probably not something you want to be caught wearing when performing. But we knew that and that’s why we then spent months back at the workshop – reconstructing, redesigning and prototyping – until we created the Soundbrenner Pulse that you know and love!
Just last month, we’re very honored and proud to receive one the highest design accolade in Asia for the Soundbrenner Pulse, the Grand Award at the Design for Asia Awards. Our CEO, Florian Simmendinger was invited to the presentation ceremony on November 30th to receive the award.

Experience Report: Florian Saeling introduced the Soundbrenner Pulse to Fanfarenzug Strausberg Marching & Showband close to Berlin (Germany). Florian joins us as a guest blogger and writes about what it is like to be part of the marching band family and how our smart vibrating metronome can add value to their activity.
Lucas and I were so excited about unboxing our first five Soundbrenner Pulses. We knew the device pretty well from tracing the campaign on Indiegogo but being the first marching band strapping it to our wrists felt kind of special and it still does. Right after we posted some photos on Instagram we got quite a few questions so I want to share our experiences and thoughts with everyone in the world who is lucky enough to either march with or instruct a band.
On the mission to change many people’s lives.
Marching bands are communities dedicated to achieve the greatest together. Every year, we as instructors believe in the power and potentials of millions of young people worldwide. Developing personality traits and skills they don’t even dream about in the beginning, making for the untouchable and getting them obsessed to “be powerful, be passionate, be 100 percent. All in every second on the way. Every toss, every note, every step.” (Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps).

In less than a year, Soundbrenner has gone from an idea on a white board, to manufacturing its first product, the Soundbrenner Pulse wearable metronome. 2015 has been a hectic time for Soundbrenner, and its dynamic CEO, Florian Simmendinger. Florian is not only striving to make the best possible product, he is also invested in making Soundbrenner a musician friendly company. We had a chance between Florian’s travels to get an update on Soundbrenner, and its first product, the Soundbrenner Pulse, from the man himself.
Why do musicians need a Soundbrenner Pulse?
Metronomes are essential to every type of musician – beginners to professionals – and cross every genre of music. We learned that many beginners don’t use metronomes, even though their teachers are recommending metronomes. We found a lot of musicians suffer by not using a metronome because the click sounds of today feels just too intrusive. In the case of advanced players, they use a metronome click out of necessity in performances, or studio. Most musicians don’t find playing or practicing with a click particularly inspiring or musical. So, that’s the main problem we want to solve: allowing all musicians to play with rhythmic precision without any downsides, so they can focus on the music, get the right feel, and enjoy oneself.

At Soundbrenner, we think music educators are every bit as important, if not more so, then any A-list superstar. Teachers perform on the world’s most demanding stage, the classroom. As musicians ourselves, we understand the demands placed on music educators today.
